prep
von did an excellent job prepping for santa's arrival:
cookies - check
milk - check
carrots for the reindeer - check
(ok, so he also might have sampled everything he put on the plate)
santa & his reindeer sure must have enjoyed nibbling on all of those goodies - the plate was empty in the morning! santa also left a cute note, which made von's smile even bigger as he gazed upon all of the wonders of Christmas morning.

yes, you are looking at a mini-josh/jera flashback ... think circa 1990ish when every cool kid carried around a gameboy. now back to 2012, von seems to have discovered one of ours during the move and has claimed it as his own. josh and i are still debating if we should teach him tetris or paperboy first :)

aunt tiffany printed off this pretty cool Christmas countdown for the kids and von thoroughly enjoys our small arts-n-crafts session every day. hard to believe just five more cotton balls until Christmas!!

brrr, but not too brrrr
saturday was a 'cooped up' kind of day. so after nap, i knew we needed to run a few errands, but decided that there was one important stop to make before those errands ... the fantastic 'dinosaur playground!'
won't lie - it was a little chilly. we managed to hang around the playground (albeit all bundled up) for about a half hour or so, burning lots of energy and sharing lots of giggles.
soon the snow will cover the ground and the playground will have to wait until spring. ho-hum :-/

santa
ladies and gentleman ...
much (MUCH) to our surprise, von sat on santa's lap!
ma & pa were here visiting this weekend, so ma, von & i headed to the mall for a bit. we were walking past santa, and i thought i would just point him out from afar, perhaps a wave or a small santa discussion would ensue. as soon as von saw him, he wanted to go say hi. so we walked closer. then he asked to see santa. i figured we'd stand in line for a few minutes and he'd change his mind as it approached our turn. nope, our little von was pretty much infatuated with santa - staring at him, just waving and smiling. (seriously, if you could have seen him in october with his fear of santa, you'd be amazed by this too). anyways, von's turn came and i walked up with him. he shook santa's hand and said hi and told him his name is von. then santa asked what he wanted for Christmas ... to which von replied MAC-N-CHEESE. holy cow i almost lost it (both laughing and crying with the emotions that swarmed me). he then told santa that he'd make sure ollie didnt bark when he came to deliver the presents and maybe he'd like a truck or car too.
von then sat on santa's lap (begin his first hesitation here), and we snapped a quick photo-op (with some mom convincing that everything was ok).
von told pa & daddy the story about sitting on santa's lap when we got home for dinner, a few times over.
i'm just so happy that von enjoyed santa ... and the keepsake that i'll hold in my heart forever about asking for mac-n-cheese for Christmas :)

lights!
can't pass up a non-freezingly-cold saturday night in december to go scope out some Christmas lights!
look out, lincoln park ... and wow did von love it! he danced to the music, gazed at the lights, and smiled the entire time. it took some bribing with a promise of hot chocolate to convince him to leave (ok, maybe i wanted some too), so we hit up tim horton's on our way home.
what a cute family evening
